students are in the gym on either sides of a volleyball net catching a ball

After a concentrated 4 days of taking practice State tests, our BES students welcomed some fun, competitive time of relaxation before Spring Break. On March 8, the Byhalia Elementary School third and fourth grade classes participated in a Catchball Tournament in the BES gym. Catchball is a sport that uses the same rules as volleyball except the players catch and then throw the ball over the net rather than striking the ball.

Each Fourth Grade homeroom fielded a team in the tournament. Ms. McMillen’s Champs team was victorious over Mr. Williams’s Wildcats team. Ms. Jones’s Jaguars team won over Ms. Strickland’s Panthers sqad. In the championship game, the Champs defeated the Jaguars in a close match to claim the title of BES Fourth Grade Champions.

The Third Grade Tournament came next with each homeroom class entering a team. The tournament started with the Lockler’s Lakers team defeating the Smith’s Suns team. Then Mrs. Pope’s Pacers team was victorious against Ms. Robison’s Kids team. Next, Ms. Priar’s Red Dragons team took the win over the Pacers. In the championship game, the Lakers edged the Red Dragons team by a 15-13 score to become the BES Third Grade Champions.

This was an exciting and fun activity that was enjoyed by all of our Third and Fourth Grade teachers, staff, administrators, and our students. It was a great way to celebrate the hard work our BES students did during their week of testing.
